The Flood Mansion is a truly remarkable venue in San Francisco. Back in 1906 when the tectonic plates running through the Bay Area had their hissy fit and wrecked half the city, Maud Flood's home was obliterated.
The story goes as following, Maud told her husband that she feared to continue living in the city where such devastation took place and thus could happen again. In reply, James Flood told her that he "will build her a house of marble on a hill of granite".
And voila, this magnificent structure was brought into existence just over a century ago. Today, well, let's just say I love coming back there everytime.
